"Green" Building

Blue Line Building & Design, Inc. is committed to the concept of building and thinking green during our renovation process. However, we believe that the green concept is not an all-or-nothing proposition when remodeling your home. Anything that is done to save energy and sustain our natural resources is of value.

In addition to using Energy Star rated windows and doors, here are a few examples of our green building approach:

  • frame walls and cathedral ceilings with wider lumber to allow greater insulating value
  • avoid placing can lighting fixtures in vaulted or cathedral ceilings (This kind of lighting is a major source of heat loss. We suggest using indirect wall or track lighting in these situations.)
  • install small solar panels on the roof as a great way to heat water or warm your floors
  • use paints with low or no volatile organic compounds (VOC’s)
  • seal crawl spaces and add registers, conditioning the air the same as the house (this greatly reduces mold and mildew potential.)
  • use products made from recycled materials such as glass, paper, and plastic for counters and floors and use the many recycled products available for decking
  • isolate the living space from the project area during construction and remodeling

There are additional suggestions we can make to help reduce your utility bills and be friendlier to our earth. We are always seeking new materials and methods related to green building when planning a remodel for your home. The “Green” building is a special part of how we go about remodeling. We are willing to help you go to whatever measures you desire during the remodel of your home. We are with you from when you come up with your concept, to when we complete the project.
